The wire rope components in port cranes and other lifting machinery have a decisive influence on the safety performance of lifting operations, and the wire rope accessories on the port cranes are also one of the most frequently replaced vulnerable parts on the lifting machinery. The quality of the wire rope, the effect of the lubricating oil, and the winding method of the wire rope are all key factors affecting the service life of the port crane wire rope. Therefore, in the use process of the lifting machinery, how to choose, use, and maintain the wire rope to extend the service life of the wire rope, it is very important to improve the utilization rate of the port crane and reduce the maintenance cost of the port crane.
Whether the wire rope needs to be scrapped is mainly determined by the number of broken wires in a twist. According to the safety standards of lifting machinery, when a wire rope, regardless of any part, as long as the number of broken wires in a twist reaches a standard value, it should be scrapped. Therefore, in order to extend the service life of the wire rope, the following aspects should be paid attention to when selecting the port crane wire rope:
1. When designing the winding system, try to reduce the number of bends of the wire rope, especially avoid reverse winding, and the fatigue degree of the wire rope caused by reverse winding is twice that of the same direction winding;
2. Wire contact rope is preferred for the wire rope structure form;
3. Reasonably determine the size of the port crane drum, pulley material and rope groove;
4. Correctly select the wire rope strength grade, which should not be greater than 1850 MPa under normal circumstances;
5. Strengthen the maintenance of the port crane wire rope to keep the wire rope clean.
