The Economic Performance Of Portal Cranes

The economic performance of portal cranes is mainly reflected in the following aspects: among the fixed loading and unloading equipment at the front edge of the terminal, the portal crane has a much lower construction cost than large-scale specialized loading and unloading equipment such as ship unloaders. Its equipment cost advantages are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

1.In terms of basic design and technology, the model design is mature, economical and market competitive. In addition to a few large domestic main engine manufacturers with independent design and innovation capabilities, there are also professional universities and professional design consulting companies as a supplement to the design of portal cranes. Whether it is a “turnkey” form of general contracting or separate bidding and procurement of design and manufacturing, the design part can achieve the best optimization in the domestic market in terms of design fees and design rationality and economy. The design cost actually accounts for only about 3% of the total package price of the equipment.

2.Compared with professional front-edge ship unloading equipment such as ship unloaders, portal cranes have relatively low speed and work system, and in the selection of supporting parts, except for key parts such as bearings and some original parts of electrical control, most parts have the conditions of nationalization or domestic production of imported brands. The large-scale localization of supporting parts not only directly reduces the procurement cost of new machine parts, but also greatly improves the quality assurance and timeliness of spare parts for after-sales service of the equipment, and greatly improves the economy of later maintenance of the equipment. Moreover, from the perspective of the whole process control of the entire project, due to the localization of parts, the construction period is greatly shortened, and the capital turnover rate is accelerated, which is beneficial to both buyers and sellers. With the large-scale application of portal cranes in shipyards, terminals, logistics centers and other places in recent years, the market for supporting parts of portal cranes has been expanding, attracting a number of powerful port machinery equipment upstream and downstream manufacturers to invest in research and development of domestic supporting parts, respectively, in the key parts of portal cranes such as reducers, brakes, electrical control hardware and systems, container spreaders, grabs have made significant breakthroughs and have been widely used maturely. 

3.The economy of transportation and installation links. Due to its relatively small self-weight and low height, the domestic            transportation and installation mode of portal cranes is currently relatively mature, which is to adopt large or scattered          transportation schemes. Compared with large-scale equipment such as ship unloaders, although the cost of on-site assembly and floating crane coordination is increased, the transportation ship type can be minimized as much as possible and a lot of savings can be made in the binding labor and materials, and the equipment landing risk can be minimized, which is relatively more economical.
